The “Lazar Vrkatić” Foundation
The “Lazar Vrkatić” Foundation was founded in June 2008 in Novi Sad by Professor Lazar Vrkatić's family, with the aim of preserving the memory of his pedagogical, scientific, intellectual, humanitarian, and socially engaged work.
During his twenty years of work in higher education and research, Professor Vrkatić’s focus had always been on nurturing, monitoring, and providing opportunities to highly talented young students. The Foundation thus awards three types of scholarships. The first type is granted to high school graduates, the second to the Faculty of Law and Business Studies students, and the third to any philosophy students studying in the Republic of Serbia. The Foundation aims to promote Professor Vrkatić’s own values and beliefs, such as to keep faith in the great intellectual and cognitive potential of young people, and to encourage their scientific or artistic work, regardless of their current economic situation. Our aim is to promote knowledge and research as the means to achieve both individual improvement and social and humanitarian goals.
The Foundation’s other purpose is to promote Professor Vrkatić’s scientific and academic research through electronic and printed publishing, panels, round tables, presentations, and through the participation and support of scientific and other associations related to Professor Vrkatić’s work and his humanitarian and public activities. One step in this direction was the publication of his collected works by the Faculty of Law and Business Studies and Mediteran Publishing House in 2009.
It is our hope that the importance of our work will be recognized and that we will gain support of all interested academics and professionals for investing into young people and the society as a whole.
